HISTORY

R. A. Howard & Sons is a family run business now in its third generation. 

 

Started in 1962 by Mr Ronald Aubrey Howard, a master builder who worked on maintenance and adaption projects and building various houses for clients throughout the North Riding of Yorkshire.  He sadly passed away in 1982. 

 

Ronald's son Graham Howard took over the helm of the business in 1982 and expanded into various streams of housing association works, council, insurance work, commercial, speculative and private house building, working in the North East of England and Yorkshire. 

 

Graham’s sons Richard and Keith Howard started working for the company in 2003 and 2000. 

 

Keith had always had a passion for working with wood, so was trained as a shop fitter and joiner studying at Sunderland Technical College, working for Hadleys and Wardell shop fitters before joining the family business. Keith now runs the joinery division of the company. 

 

Richard again had a passion for buildings and started working for the company when he left school in 1991, labouring and surveying and studying at the CITB college at Bircham Newton on a Building Technician course gaining a BTEC ONC in building studies.

 

He joined AMEC in 1993 studying BTEC HNC in building studies and gaining a BSC Hons in Quantity surveying. He worked on various projects from housing to commercial developments shops, factories, prisons and offices.

 

In 2001 he joined Mansell working on various housing association developments then returned to the company in 2003 managing the family business. Richard is now Managing Director of the company. 

 

R. A. Howard Group are members of NFB (National Federation of Builders) and the NCBF (Northern Counties Builders Federation).

We employ various building tradesman and have a good reliable labour resource from years of working with ourselves.  We buy materials from materials suppliers providing good value quality products.
